Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University rebounded from its first loss of the spring with a decisive 9-0 win over visiting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Thursday afternoon in non-league men's tennis action at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The Cougars, now 10-2 overall, have won nine of their last ten matches heading into Saturday's conference showdown with Wheaton. The Trailblazers, who just revitalized their program this fall, drop to 1-2 on the season.
Clark opened up the match sweeping the doubles matches by 8-0 scores, including at No. 3 where Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Scott Cabell (West Hartford, Conn.) combined for their first victory as a tandem.
Singles proved to go in the Cougars favor in similar fashion as Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) at No. 2, Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) at No. 4 and Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 5 all posted straight set, 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) had a little trouble at No. 1 singles against MCLA's Daniel Nesti, winning the first set 7-5 before taking the second, 6-1.
Clark, in the midst of six match home stand, will entertain the Lyons beginning at 1:00 p.m.
