Clark Roars Past Endicott, 7-2

Worcester, Mass. – Powered by a sweep of the three doubles matches, Clark University won its second straight match to open up the season with a 7-2 triumph over visiting Endicott College in non-league men's tennis action on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars also won four of the six singles matches in straight sets as well, to continue their hot play that started last season.

Endicott, meanwhile, coming off of a trip to the Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals a season ago, drop their first dual match of the season under new head coach Jeremy Howard.

Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) teamed up with Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) to top Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) and Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.), 8-2 at No.1, while Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) posted an 8-2 win as well over Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) and Michael Dolph.

The Cougars finished the sweep behind Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Phillip Porter (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) taking down Michael Laurentano (Winchester, Mass.) and Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass.), 8-5.

Endicott picked up singles victories at No. 5, with Forance besting Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.), 6-1, 6-0 and Gandrup defeating Scott Cabell (West Hartford, Conn.) in a three-set battle, 7-6, 4-6, 10-4.

Clark proved to be too much however, as Angel collected a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ross at No. 1 and Martin followed suit with another straight set win over Dolph at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3.

Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.), meanwhile, recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cohen at No. 3 and Pinoargote wrapped up the night with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.).

The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Stonehill College for a matchup with the Division II Skyhawks. The Gulls are next in action on Saturday when they take part in the Connecticut College Tournament.
