Easton, Mass. – Host Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in the ITA Division II East Region, swept all three doubles matches and posted a 6-3 win over visiting Clark University in non-league men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Skyhawks improved to 3-0 with the win, while the Cougars suffer their first defeat of the 2013 season and now sit at 2-1.
The Stonehill combination of Eric Rngstad and Nick Hyzak edged out Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) and Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) 8-4 at No. 1. That was followed by Chris Martin and Jared Drzal upending Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) 8-6 at No. 2.
Thomas Alaimo and Brett Armstrong capped off the Skyhawk sweep with a 9-7 triumph over Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) and Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.).
The Cougars picked up all three of their wins in singles competition, led by Angel, who posted a straight set win over Ringstad at No. 1 (6-2, 6-4). Stein topped Alaimo 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 at No. 2 and Martin was victorious at No. 3, dropping Philip Klados 7-5, 6-2.
Clark will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a trip to Salve Regina on Sunday.
