Box Score Leicester, Mass. – Clark University scored six unanswered goals – including a pair from sophomore striker Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) – to wrap up play at the 2012 Worcester City Men's Soccer Tournament with a 6-1 win over Worcester State on Sunday afternoon at Becker College's Alumni Field.
The Cougars (1-1) scored three goals in an eleven minute span that broke open the contest midway through the first half. After the Lancers (0-2) got a score from Brian Cormier in the ninth minute, Clark would answer two and a half minutes later, as Vaske Gjino (Worcester, Mass.) headed in an indirect kick from Gianluca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) for the equalizer.
Ranallo assisted on the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute, off a brilliant pass to Zapata as the Cougars went up 2-1. Zapata followed with an unassisted score in the 23rd minute, and Ranallo capped off the first period with a goal in the 43rd minute.
The Cougars didn't let up in the second half, as Zachary Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) found the back of the net just 2:37 into the period.
Will Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.) completed the match's scoring when converted a penalty kick with just ten minutes remaining in the contest.
Clark goalkeepers Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) and Robert Bischof (Tarrytown, N.Y.) combined for five saves on the day.
Clark is back in action on Wednesday, September 5 when they travel to Nichols for a 4:00 p.m. game with the Bison.
