Box Score

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University junior Maycon Malta (Milford, Mass.) scored in the 87th minute to help deliver a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Clark on Wednesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

The win for the host Rams is gives them back-to-back wins for just the second time this season and improves their record to 6-11-1, while the Cougars fall to 4-11-2.

With the game tied at 1-1, things looked to be headed to overtime until Malta raced down the field and capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity as he tucked the ball into the lower left corner of the net at 86:49.

Ryan Boughter (Rockland, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Rams when he finished at 19:59 off a corner taken by junior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.).

The Cougars had a chance to even the game late in the first half when Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) had a good look from the left side in the 31st minute but the ball was scooped up by senior goalkeeper Kiko Anzoategui (Peabody, Mass.).

Clark finally broke through with the equalizer just 2:35 into the second half as freshman Vinny Morra (Setauket, N.Y.) headed in a feed from classmate Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) for his fifth goal of the season.

Zapata had a chance to put the guests on top in the 52nd minute but his bid banged off the crossbar.

Anzoategui (4-6-1) stopped five shots in the victory while Clark senior Alfonso Alvarez (San Salvador, El Salvador) made a pair of saves in the setback (1-4-2).

The Cougars claimed a 19-9 margin in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams will see their 2013 seasons come to an end on Saturday. The Rams travel to Westfield State for a MASCAC meeting with the Owls at 5 p.m.
