Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Springfield College won three straight sets after dropping the first and the visiting Pride continued its stellar start with a 3-1 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
The win for the Pride improves their record to an impressive 14-1 overall, including a 6-1 mark in league play. Clark, meanwhile, has dropped three straight to slip to 7-11 and 1-5 in conference action.
Entering the night, the Cougars had lost 16 straight matches to Springfield by 3-0 scores, but the host came out energized and never trailed, taking the first set, 25-19.
The Pride took the second set 25-18 to draw even, as they pounded out 15 kills and took advantage of the Cougars hitting just .056.
In the third set, Springfield hit a blistering .412 en route to an easy 25-10 victory, which was followed by a 25-19 win in the fourth, that saw the Pride race out to a 10-3 lead and total 16 kills.
Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.), the league's leading hitter turned in a 19-kill performance on .500 hitting to lead the offensive attack for the visitors, who also got 15 kills and 12 digs from Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.). Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.), meanwhile, dished out 44 assists – her fifth match of the season with 40 or more assists.
Clark was paced by Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.), who racked up 13 kills and eight digs, while Savonnah Rowe (New York, N.Y.) chipped in with nine kills and three block assists.
The Cougars are off until Saturday when they take part in a tri-match that features Massachusetts Maritime and Salve Regina.
