Clark Rally Comes Up Short To Wabash, 5-4

Orlando, Fla. – Down 3-0 after doubles play, Clark University mounted a furious comeback that eventually fell short, dropping the first match of their spring break trip, 5-4, to Wabash College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cougars (3-3), who went undefeated in Florida a season ago, was facing a Little Giants squad that was playing its 12th match of the season.

Clark started its rally with four straight set victories, beginning with Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) topping Daniel Delgado, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1.

Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) continued the surge with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nate Koelper at No. 2. He was followed by Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) earning a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Mark Troiano at No. 3.

The Cougars' other win came at No. 6 where Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) dropped Chase Bramlett at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.

The other two matches could've gone either way. Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) actually took the first set at No. 4 over Ian Leonard, 6-4. Leonard, however, rallied to take the second and third sets, 6-4 and 7-5.

Phil Kubisz and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) were locked in the day's best match at No. 5. Kubisz took the first set 6-3, but dropped the second set tiebreaker, 7-6 (6-3). Kubisz, however, eventually came out on top, taking the third set, 6-4.

Clark wastes little time getting back on the court, playing Coe College later in the day at 6:00 p.m.
