Seniors Shine In Final Home Match, Help Post 8-1 Win

Worcester, Mass. – Playing in the final home match of their careers, Clark University seniors Diego Angel (Lima, Peru), Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) all picked up wins as the host Cougars rolled to an 8-1 win over Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Sunday afternoon.

The win is not only Clark's seventh in its last eight matches but it secured the Cougars a spot in the upcoming conference tournament for the second consecutive season.

Clark opened up the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. Angel and Fernando Pinoargote(Guayaquil, Ecuador) teamed up at No. 2 to knock off Alex Orban (Milford, Conn.) and Zac Goldstein (Shelton, Conn.), 8-1 and Hall and Rollinger joined forces at No. 3 to defeat Joshua Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) and Cody Rodrigues (Westfield, Mass.), 8-4.

The Pride's lone win of the match came at No. 1 doubles where Benjamin Burnap (Westerly, R.I.) and Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) outlasted Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio), 9-8.

Angel led off the Cougars' singles sweeps with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Burnap at No. 1. That was followed by Stein topping Giannelli, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Goodstein getting past Orban at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2.

Pinoargote continued his strong freshman campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Goldstein at No. 4, while Josh Burger(Fairfield, Conn.) had an easy time with Rodrigues at No. 5, collecting a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) finished off the match with a straight set, 6-3, 6-1 win over Robinson at No. 6.

Clark, now 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league play will wrap up its regular season with three road matches this week.

They visit Johnson and Wales on Tuesday, Brandeis on Friday and Babson on Saturday.

Springfield (7-7), meanwhile, wastes little time in returning to action with a home match against American International on Monday.
