Babson Park, Mass.—Led by Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Victor Vu (Los Angeles, Calif.), Babson College swept all three doubles matches and then won five of the six singles matches on its way to an 8-1 win over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action at Farwell Courts on Saturday afternoon.
With its season-high fifth consecutive victory, Babson moves to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC while Clark drops to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Both teams have qualified for next weekend's NEWMAC Tournament and will await their seeding early next week.
Perez and Vu made quick work of Clark's Daniel Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio), winning 8-3 at number two doubles, and then grabbed wins at number one and two singles, respectively.
Perez turned back the Cougars' Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) 6-0, 6-3, while Vu topped Stein 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomores Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica) and Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) paired up for an 8-4 win at number one doubles and senior Mitchell Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) and first-year Saif Rahim (Hong Kong) picked up an easy 8-1 win at number three doubles.
Henry won 6-2, 6-0 over Goodstein at number four singles, DeFiore upended Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) 6-1, 6-2 at number five singles and sophomore Roy Murdock (Santa Monica, Calif.) topped Clark's Joel Simonson 7-6, 7-6 to earn the Beavers final point.
The Cougars' lone point on the afternoon came from Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), who won a 13-11 super-breaker over Doyley at number three singles.
