Babson Park, Mass. - Babson College erupted for an 8-1 run over the final 12 minutes of the second quarter to pull away from visiting Clark University, as the Beavers secured a 21-7 victory in a Pilgrim Men's Lacrosse League matchup at MacDowell Field on Wednesday night.

Now riding a four-game winning streak, Babson improved to 9-6 overall while remaining undefeated in conference play at 5-0. The Beavers will now travel to Springfield College this Saturday in a regular-season finale that will determine the top seed in the league tournament.

Trailing by only one after the first quarter of play, Clark (7-6 overall, 2-3 Pilgrim League) pulled even when first-year Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) converted a pass from junior Jeffrey Wasson (Buckhorn, Ontario) to make it a 3-3 contest with 14:47 left in the second.

However, the rest of the period was all Babson, as the hosts scored eight of the next nine goals to take an 11-4 advantage heading into halftime. Junior Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio) and first-year Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) each scored twice during the run, while junior Brad Bero (Carlisle, Mass.) capped it with a behind-the-head highlight-reel goal off an Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) feed with 12.1 seconds left in the period.

Clark never threatened in the second half, as Babson scored all five goals in the third period and two more to start the fourth to take a commanding 18-4 lead en route to the 21-7 final.

Packer and sophomore Kyle Barsalou (Longmeadow, Mass.) each finished with four goals and one assist for Babson, while Low also tallied five points with three goals and two assists. Patinkin finished with two goals and four assists, as he pulled to within one of matching program-legend Chris Grant's school record of 231 career points. The senior attack now has 59 points this season and 230 in his magnificent career.

Sophomore Phil Russo (Middleton, Mass.) won 17-of-20 face-offs while picking up a game-high nine groundballs for the Beavers. First-year Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) added eight groundballs, junior Ryan Dawidjan (Worcester, Mass.) recorded three caused turnovers, and senior James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) made four saves in three quarters of action.

Junior Kevin Ranta (Beverly, Mass.) put up a valiant fight in goal for Clark, finishing with a career-high 22 saves and a team-best seven groundballs. Wasson led the Cougars' offense with four goals and one assist for five points, while first-year Alex Turgeon (Holden, Mass.) recorded six groundballs and five face-off wins.

Clark now faces a win-and-get-in scenario on Saturday. A win over league rival MIT would secure the first-ever postseason berth for the Cougars. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
