Morra Stars As Cougars Blank Chargers, 2-0

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Freshman striker Vinny Morra (Setauket, N.Y.) scored both goals and visiting Clark University posted a 2-0 win over Colby-Sawyer in non-league men's soccer action on Tuesday evening.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-1-1 overall in advance of their big showdown with No. 15 Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon on Granger Field.

Morra put the visitors on the board in the 13th minute after he gained control of a loose ball on the right side of the six-yard box and scored into the opposite bottom corner of the net.

Fourteen minutes later, Morra again gathered a loose ball after a Colby-Sawyer defender misplayed a clear attempt and he was able to score past the dive of Chargers keeper Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.)

The two goals for Morra give him a team-leading three on the season – the most of any first-year player in the NEWMAC.

In addition to Morra's offense, Clark got a shutout from their two-headed goalkeeping combination of freshman Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Mass.) and sophomore Robert Bischof (Tarrytown, N.Y.).

The Cougars controlled the ball for most of the contest, outshooting the hosts 25-5, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goals. The Chargers played the final 16 minutes a man down after a defender was sent off for receiving two cards.

Saturday's contest with the Judges –who enter the meeting at 5-0 – should be an entertaining one. Seven of the last eight meetings have been a one-goal contest.
