Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Gordon College erupted for five second half goals en route to a convincing 6-1 win over Clark University in non-league men's soccer action on Tuesday evening.

Both Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) and Andrew Vandervoot (Memphis, Tenn.) played huge roles in the win, with Cole racking up three assists and Vandervoot registering a hat trick.

The win for the Fighting Scots extends their season-opening win streak to six games, while the Cougars have now dropped back-to-back games by a combined score of 11-1 with those two teams having an overall record of 11-0.

Evan Crocker (Akron, Ohio) got the scoring started when he took a pass up the right side from Cole and fired a long ball towards Clark keeper Robert Bischof (Tarrytown, N.Y.). Bischof, who was looking straight into the sun, lost sight of the ball and Gordon had a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.

Clark answered back less than a minute later, as Vinny Morra (Setauket, N.Y.) had his shot turned back by Tim Hardy (Gorham, Maine) but Nate Biedak (Taunton, Mass.) was there to pounce on the rebound to even the score.

No other goals came in the final 41 minutes of first half action, but they started coming almost immediately in the second half. Cole setup Vandervoost's first goal of the game exactly two minutes into the second stanza, and then less than seven minutes later, that combination connected again for a 3-1 Gordon advantage.

Vandervoost completed the hat trick with his third goal in a 13 minute span, when he recorded an unassisted tally at 60:21.

Four minutes later the Fighting Scots were at it again, this time it was Andy Guthrie (Beaver Falls, Pa.), who scored his goal on a free kick and then Kellen Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) got in on the act, notching his team-leading sixth marker of the season when he was left unmarked at the top of the box in the 68th minute.

Gordon held a 21-12 edge in shots (11-4 in shots on goal), including a 12-3 advantage in the final 45 minutes.

Clark (2-3-1) will look to snap its current two-game losing streak when it plays host to WPI on Saturday in its NEWMAC opener, while the Fighting Scots (6-0) host Salve Regina on Saturday as well.
