Bridgewater, Mass. – Visiting Clark University improved to an impressive 8-2 overall with a convincing 9-0 win over Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon at frigid Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Cougars, who have won six of their last seven matches, have now defeated the Bears in three straight meetings by an aggregate score of 25-2.
Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) started the match off by blanking Cody Farrell and Eric Johnson 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
That was followed by Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) and Phillip Porter (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) teaming up to drop Matt McGee and Sean Murray, 8-1, at No. 3 and Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) breezing past Jesse Gotlib and Hung Huynh, 8-3, at No. 2.
Singles matches were relatively smooth for the Cougars as Goodstein cruised by Huynh, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Pinoargote dispatched Farrell with ease at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1.
Burger found little resistance from McGee at No. 5, collecting a 6-0, 6-4 victory while Joel Simsonson (Waterford, Conn.) took down Johnson, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4.
Martin sealed his match at No. 1 with Gotlib, registering a 6-3, 6-0 win and Jimmy Keough (Worcester, Mass.) topped Michael Mello in a shortened pro set, 8-2 at No. 6.
Clark will face a stiff test on Saturday when they return to the South Coast for a meeting with Division II Stonehill College. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
