Easton, Mass. – Division II Stonehill College swept through all three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 win over visiting Clark University in men's tennis action on Saturday morning at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex.
The Skyhawks, ranked No. 9 in the most recent ITA Division II East Regional rankings, improved to 8-2 on the season, while the Cougars now sit at 8-3.
Eric Ringstad and Brett Armstrong teamed up to edge Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Antoine Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), 9-7, at No. 1 and that was followed by an easy 8-2 win at No. 2 by Nick Hyzak and Jared Drzal over Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.).
Stonehill complete the doubles sweep when Tom Alaimo and Jon Sanders defeated Fernando Pinoargote (Guayquil, Ecuador) and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) 8-4 at No. 3.
Clark finally broke through in singles action, picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. First, Martin outlasted Ringstad in a marathon three-set thriller, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 and 10-5. Pinoargote then got the Cougars other point when he dropped Armstrong 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Scarlet and White will return to action on Monday with a home match against Rhode Island College. First serve is slated for 4:00 p.m.
