Allen Gets Historic Hit In Twinbill Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Fort Myers, Fla. – Anchored by the continued hot bat of Maya Allen (Concord, Mass.), the Clark University softball split its doubleheader with Saint John Fisher and Northland College on Tuesday morning at the Lee County Sports Complex.

Allen collected her 100th career hit on the day and now has 105 in her standout tenure at second base for Clark.

The Cougars dropped a 5-1 decision to SJF in the opener, while the Scarlet and White rolled past the Lumber Jills in 8-0 in six innings.

Clark now sits at 4-4 on their annual spring break trip with two games remaining on Wednesday against Dominican University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

In the first game against the Cardinals, Fisher scored a pair of runs in the first on a sacrifice fly and on an Olivia Fusilli RBI double center.

Fusilli picked up her second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

Fisher added two more run in the fourth inning on a Megan Burns RBI single and a Jennifer Knaak single that scored Burns.

Clark finally scored in the fifth when Alyssa Wright (Manchester, N.H.) singled to bring home Allen who doubled earlier in the inning.

In the nightcap, the Cougars scored three runs in the first on a Wright bunt single and a Shawna Amatucci (Shrewsbury, Mass.) two run single to center.

Clark added another run in the second on a RBI double by Allen that plated Melanie Dusseault (Auburn, N.H.) who doubled to open the frame.

The Cougars pushed two more across in the fourth when Molly Clark (North Kingstown, R.I.) led off the inning with a triple and came around to score on an error. Allen then scored on a Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) base hit to left.

Clark put the game to an end when Corrie Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) walked and raced around to score on an Allen double. Allen then advanced to third on an error and scored the game-ending run on a wild pitch.

Dusseault pitch what could be considered the best game of her career, going six innings, allowing just three hits, striking out four without yielding a walk and at one point retired nine straight.

Allen was the hitting star of the day, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.
