Springfield, Mass. – Clark University's historic season came to a screeching halt as top-seeded Springfield used two huge scoring runs to fly past the fourth-seeded Cougars, 13-3, in a New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) lacrosse semifinal on Wednesday evening on a rainy Stagg Field.

With the victory, the Pride (13-3) advance to the league championship game against second-seeded Babson College (11-6) on Saturday afternoon, while Clark sees the best season in school history come to an end at 8-7.

The Scarlet and White actually raced out to 2-0 lead as Nick Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) and Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) gave Clark some early momentum as they netted goals in the game's first four minutes.

Springfield then ran off eight straight goals ending the first and through the second as Ryan Murphy and Bryce Serriello each scored twice.

Clark snapped the goal scoring stretch when Ryan Moore (West Hartford, Conn.) found the back of the net before the half ended.

The Pride then opened the second half with a five goal third period courtesy of two more scores from Serriello and markers from Dylan Sheehan, Ryon Lynch and Matt Fleisher.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, marking the second straight contest in which the Pride didn't allowed a second half goal.

Kevin Ranta (Beverly, Mass.) made 13 saves in defeat for the Cougars, while John Goracy (Lumberton, N.J.) had two assists and Johnson finished his stellar inaugural campaign with a goal and an assist.

Serriello totaled a game-high high four goals, while Lynch scored a goal and dished out four assists.

The future is bright for the Cougars as they will return their top eight scorers and several key defensemen.
