Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University bounced back from a tough loss on Friday afternoon with a resounding 8-1 win over Rhode Island College in non-league men's tennis action on Monday at the Corash Tennis Courts.
Clark upped its record to 10-5 – their third consecutive season with double figure victories, while the Anchormen are now just 2-3.
The Cougars swept all three doubles matches beginning with Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Alex Werchadlo and Troy Derrick, 8-3, at No. 1. Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) got past Tim Holzinger and Seongkyeong Kim (RICMT) 8-5 before Phillip Porter (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, Mass.) dropped Brett Taggart and Gowin Nanthawongsa, 8-1 at No. 3.
Stein had the easiest time in singles action, breezing past Werchadlo, 6-0, 6-0, while Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.) had nearly the same result at No. 2, where he rolled past Derrick, 6-2, 6-0.
Goodstein also made quick work of his opponent, Tim Holzinger, at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, while Brightman was put to the test by Taggart, before claiming a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4.
The Anchormen picked up their lone victory at No. 5 as Kim took a marathon, 6-4, 1-6, 13-11 win over Keogh.
Clark will continue its busy week with Wednesday's road trip to Springfield College. First serve is slated for 4:00 p.m.
