Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University got two goals apiece from Kelly Hart (Oak Park, Ill.) and Zoe LaFrance-Armstrong (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and the Cougars raced past New England College, 6-0, in non-league field hockey action on Friday evening.
The Cougars exacted some revenge after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to the Pilgrims to open the 2013 season.
Clark scored the game's first goal in the 14th minute when Kaylin Mulrooney (Somerset, Mass.) setup LaFrance-Armstrong, giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
The Scarlet and White would hold that lead into the second half when they erupted for five goals. The scoring binge began when Mulrooney banged the back of the cage less than three minutes into the second stanza.
Less than a minute later Ciara Kilian (Stamford, Conn.) connected with Hart on a penalty corner for a 3-0 Clark lead. Another penalty corner led to another Hart marker this time with help from Kiah Murphy (Westport, Mass.).
Ahead 4-0, the hosts scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes as Sarah Cramer (Wynnewood, Pa.) notched an unassisted score and the Hart fed LaFrance-Armstrong with less than two minutes to play to wrap up the scoring.
Clark held substantial advantages in most statistical categories, including a 20-1 edge in shots and a 12-0 edge in penalty corners.
Freshman Karlie Bove was strong between the pipes for the Pilgrims, making 14 saves while the three-headed monster for Clark – Christine Tinsman, Olivia Landry and Katherine Grady – only needed to make one save to post the shutout.
The Cougars will have a week off until their next contest – a road trip to Becker College next Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
NEC, meanwhile, wastes little time getting back into action as they travel home to host Regis College this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
