Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Babson College extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with a pair of second half goals enroute to a 2-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers improve to an impressive 11-2-3 overall and remain undefeated in league contests at 4-0-3 with three conference matchups remaining on their schedule.
For the Cougars, meanwhile, they slip 2-10-2 and are still in search of their first NEWMAC victory this season (0-5-1).
There wasn't a lot of offense in the first half for either team but the best scoring chance came in the 36th minute for the Beavers when Kelsey Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) turned her defender around at the top of the box and fired a shot that banged off the crossbar.
Things picked up almost immediately in the final 45 minutes as a through ball found the foot of Olivia Kerester (Chappaqua, N.Y.) but her shot was snuffed out by a sliding Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.). The rebound came out Marissa Endow (Worcester, Mass.) but her shot sailed high over the crossbar.
Babson kept the pressure on and it appeared they would find the back of the net in the 63rd minute when Taylor Goldsborough (Williston, Vt.) found some pace just inside the box but her shot also clanged off the crossbar.
The Beavers finally broke through when Kerester beat her defender to a ball on the far end line then sent a pass across the goal mouth to Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, Mass.) who tapped in her third career goal at 68:30.
Babson would double their lead when Goldsborough sent a pass from right top corner of the box to a streaking Jessica Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) at the lower left corner who banged home her team-leading seventh marker of the season in the 76th minute.
In a game that seemed to be pretty even, the visitors held an 18-9 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Paolini was solid again in goal for the Scarlet and White, recording seven saves. For the Beavers, first-year Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) continues to amaze as she improves to 10-1-1 with six shutouts in between the pipes for the Green and White.
Both teams are back in action with home conference games on Tuesday. Babson welcomes Emerson at 4:00 p.m. while the Cougars entertain Wellesley at 6:30 p.m.
