Box Score Springfield, Mass. - Behind two second-half strikes from the Pride, the Springfield College men's soccer team defeated Clark University, 3-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Brock-Affleck Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Springfield is now 8-2 on the year, and picks up its second conference victory of the season, now sitting at 2-1 in league play. Clark falls to 2-7-1 on the year, and remains winless in the conference, now 0-3. The Pride out shot Clark 20-6 over 90 minutes of play, as both teams finished with a pair of corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished the game only having to make one save, while his counterpart, Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) posted seven stops in the loss.
Springfield opened the games scoring just 13:58 into the contest, when freshman Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) took a pass from senior Connor Archambault (Torrance, Calif.) and found the back of the net for the first time in his career to give the Pride an early 1-0 advantage over the Cougars. Just 16:03 later, Clark pulled even behind a strike from Alberto Polo-Herrera (Arlington, Va.), that was assisted by Tim Rovnak (Portland, Maine).
In the second half, Springfield was able to move ahead when sophomore Curtis Bolduc (South Windsor, Conn.) blasted a shot into the right side of the net to give the Pride a 2-1 lead with 27:40 left in the contest.
Springfield would tack on an insurance goal with 16:29 remaining in the contest, when junior Taylor Gilfoy (Holliston, Mass.) slid a pass to Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.), who tallied his third goal of the season.
A stout defensive unit from Springfield was able to hold off a late charge from the Cougars, sealing the win for the Pride.
Clark is next in action on Wednesday when they play host to Mount Ida in a non-league affair. That match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
