Pasadena, Calif. – Playing in their second match in less than 24 hours, Clark University dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to California Institute of Technology (Caltech) on Sunday morning.

The Cougars who had just come off of a 9-0 defeat to the nation's No. 2 team in Claremont Mudd-Scripps on Saturday evening, sees their overall record slip to 2-6, while the Beavers have now won back-to-back matches following Friday's win over Hope International.

Things started out well for the Scarlet and White as they took two of the first three doubles matches. First, Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) took down Morgan Lebby and Rushikesh Joshi, 8-4 at No. 2. That was followed by Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Scott Cabell (West Hartford, Conn.) topping Ishan Mehta and Alexander Henry by the same score at No. 3.

Caltech's only doubles win came at No. 1 where brothers Ruthwick and Sathwick Pathireddy bested Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.), 8-5.

The Beavers then turned up the heat in singles action with both the Pathireddy brothers getting straight set wins.

Clark answered with a 6-1, 6-1 win by Stein at No. 1 and a 6-0, 6-4 win by Siegel at No. 6 but in the end, Caltech wrapped up the match with Henry defeating Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.), 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 and Lebby squeaking past Goodstein 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.

The Cougars are off until Friday when they complete their West Coast swing with a visit to Occidental. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
