Box Score 2 Cape Coral, Fla. – Playing on the final day of their ten-game slate in Florida, Clark University split a twinbill with Northland College and Mount Saint Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at the Cape Coral Sports Complex. Clark (3-7) defeated Northland 10-2 before falling in the day's finale to the Knights, 6-1.
In the opener against the LumberJills, the Scarlet and White scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Alyssa Wright (Manchester, N.H.) kicked things off with an RBI single and then Hayley Buckheit (Camden Hills, Maine) delivered the biggest blow with a two run double.
Buckheit drove in another run the second and that was followed by an RBI single from Annmarie Fransen (Belmont, Mass.) in the fourth.
Northland got two runs back in the fifth when leadoff hitter Alecea Piper drove in a pair on a single.
Clark wasted little time getting back on the scoreboard in the fifth on a run-scoring single from Melanie Dusseault (Auburn, Mass.) and Buckheit's two-run single ended the game.
In the nightcap, Mount Saint Mary scored two in the first on their way to a 6-1 win that was dominated by pitching.
Cindy Connolly struck out 17 Cougars, including eight of the first nine batter she faced. Clark hurler Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) was up to the task as well, fanning a career-best ten of her own.
The Knights Stephanie Karcher proved to be the star of the game, going 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Clark's lone run came off the bat of Wright who drove in Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) with single to right.
The Cougars are off until March 17 when they host Worcester-area rival Becker for a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
