Babson Park, Mass. – Meghan Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs and tossed a complete game in the opener, and first-year Ali Reilly (New Canaan, Conn.) struck out a career-high 12 in game two as Babson College swept visiting Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Beavers improve to 18-13 overall and 9-7 in league contests, while the Cougars slip to 2-22 and 0-14 in NEWMAC contests.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday with the Green and White hosting WPI and Clark welcoming Emerson for Senior Day.

Game 1: Babson College 5, Clark University 2

The Beavers scored all five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Meghan Hayes. Lindsey Schmid got the scoring going by doubling home Madison Dinaso, who opened the frame with a triple to right center. After a single from Leslie Moore, Catie Benoit smacked the first of her two doubles, putting runners on second and third. Clark reliever Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) was greeted by Hayes' two-run double, but that was the one of only three hits she allowed, going the final 4.2 innings.

The Cougars got their two runs courtesy of the longball in the top of the fifth. First, Annmarie Fransen (Belmont, Mass.) singled to center with one out and Lina Nguyen (Worcester, Mass.) crushed a two-run shot to left – the first of her career.

That would be the last hit for Clark, however, as Hayes retired the final eight batters she faced, locking up her league-leading 11th win of the season.

Benoit had three hits for the Beavers – two of them doubles, while Moore had two hits of her own.

Clark only mustered four hits in the opener, with their other two hits coming as doubles from Anjelica Gonzalez (Merrimack, N.H.) and Alyssa Wright (Manchester, N.H.).

Game 2: Babson College 5, Clark University 1

The Green and White took control of the nightcap by scoring in each of the first four innings. Dinaso, who has now reached base in 30 consecutive games going back to last season, singled and scored on a double by Schmid, and Moore plated Schmid just one batter later to give Babson a 2-0 lead after one.

Maya Lacy (East Mill Creek, Utah) drove in Reilly, who reached on an error to open the second, to give the Beavers a 3-0 edge. The Cougars got the run back in the third as Hayley Buckheit (Camden, Maine) singled and came around all the way from first on a two-out double by Wright to cut their deficit to 3-1.

Catherine Pitts (Winchester, Mass.) drove in Emily Morris (Wolcott, Conn.) with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Benoit plated Dinaso with a two-out double down the right field line in the fifth to give Babson a 5-1 lead. The four-run bulge was more than enough for Reilly, who retired 13 of the final 14 batters she faced, to move to 7-8 on the season.

Schmid, Morris and Meaghan Merullo (Winchester, Mass.) all finished with two hits for the Beavers, while Dinaso scored a pair of runs.

Melanie Dusseault (Auburn, N.H.) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits in just an inning of work. Buckheit struck out three and gave up just two unearned runs over the final five innings for the Cougars.
