Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University sent their senior class out in style, exploding for a school-record 26 goals as the Cougars wrapped up their second straight winning season with a 26-6 win over New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Emerson College in men's lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon at Granger Field.
The win for the Scarlet and White closes out the program's 25th season at 8-7 and the eight-man senior class – Keegan Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.), Peter Christiansen (Seattle, Wash.), Ian Daly (Wantagh, N.Y.), Nathan Donoso-Reddick (Berkeley, Calif.), Matt George (Plymouth, Mass.), Ryan Marsh (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Max Nyquist (Okemos, Mich.) and Dennis O'Brien (Medfield, Mass.) – graduates as the winningest group of all-time.
Meanwhile, pair of players set to return in 2016 etched their names into the record books as well. First, junior Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) became the 11th member of the 100-point club when he found the back of the net just 2:23 into the contest.
In addition to Holden, sophomore Nick Johnson (Amherst, Mass.), who earlier in the week set the school mark for most assists in a season, racked up eight points on the afternoon to set a new mark for points in a season (70), surpassing the 69 posted by John Toto in 1999. Just 30 games into his career, Johnson already ranks sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 123 (58 goals, 65 assists) points.
Today's contest started out extremely well for the Cougars as the put nine goals on the board in the first quarter with Johnson netting four, Holden registering three, Ryan Moore (West Hartford, Conn.) and Christiansen each getting one.
Clark scored five more goals, making the score 14-0 before Emerson scored three straight on single strikes from Peter Negri, Nick Kitsos and Diego Rosende.
Callahan and Kyle Elkins (Stow, Mass.) both found the back of the net in the waning moments of the first half sending the teams into the intermission with the score 16-3 in favor of Clark.
The Cougars continued to put distance between themselves and the Lions as they recorded the first four goals of the second half, including the record-breaking point from Johnson less than five minutes into the quarter.
Calvin Bussiere broke up the six straight goal stretch for Clark but the Scarlet and White started another one as Elkins, Alex Turgeon (Holden, Mass.) and Darius Jagminas (East Greenwich, R.I.) all scored before the quarter ended.
O'Brien potted the first marker of the fourth quarter – his first ever – on a man-up strike with less than nine minutes to play. Moments later Jesse Larson (Belmont, Mass.) also found the back of the net giving him his first collegiate score as well.
Kitsos and Rosende ended the scoring for both teams when they each scored in the final three minutes, with Rosende's marker coming as a man-up score.
Four different Cougars netted hat tricks, beginning with Johnson (five goals), Holden (three goals) and also Will Fitzpatrick (Saint James, N.Y.) and Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.).
Rishi Singh (Sterling, Mass.) actually led all players with a career-best four assists, while Callahan, Christiansen and Elkins all registered two markers.
For Emerson (5-11) Kitsos and Rosende each totaled two goals and an assist.
