Northampton, Mass. – With several personal records being set, the Clark University women's cross country team churned out a fifth-place finish at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Cougars had a pair of runners – Kristen Glennie (Standish, Maine) and Madeleine Doyle (South Berwick, Maine) – finish in the top ten to lead the charge.
"This was a very good race run by us today," said head coach Bill Gray. "Kristen and Maddy set the tone and personal bests followed for others. This result is a great sign for what we can expect this season."
Glennie continued the amazing start to her collegiate career, now having run ten all-time races for the Scarlet and White, she has been the Cougars' top finisher in all ten. Today was no exception as she posted a seventh place finish in 20:28 over the 5K layout.
Doyle wasn't too far behind Glennie as she notched a top ten finish of her own, completing the course in 20:35, good for ninth.
Clark's other three runners were packed closely with a pair of freshmen in Emily Monahan-Morang (Freeport, Maine) and Kayla Rich (Billerica, Mass.) finished in 35th and 37th places respectively in times of 23:32 and 23:42.
Erin Glennie (Standish, Maine) wrapped up the scoring contingent for the Cougars with her 39th place finish in 23:58.
Clark returns to action on Saturday, September 19 when they take part in the UMass-Dartmouth Shriners' Invitational.
