Box Score 2 Worcester, Mass. – Playing in front of their home crowd for just the second time this season, host Clark University swept through a tri-match with Coast Guard Academy and Western New England on Saturday, continuing the perfect start to their 2015 campaign.
With their consecutive 3-0 wins, the Scarlet and White improve to 10-0 and with their win over the Bears to start the day, they are now 2-0 in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference contests.
Western New England split their two matches on the day falling to the Cougars but squeaking past Coast Guard, 3-2 in the middle match of the afternoon.
Match 1: Clark 3, Coast Guard Academy 0: (25-20, 25-13, 25-19)
The Scarlet and White opened up action in fine fashion, rolling to an easy 3-0 win over their NEWMAC rivals to improve to 2-0 in league play.
Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) notched her third match this season with 40 or more assists as the Cougars used their powerful attack to defeat Coast Guard for the first time since 2009.
Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) recorded her fourth straight double-double and sixth overall this season with 14 kills and 13 digs.
In addition to Ramos, Ana Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) totaled 12 kills and Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) racked up 13 digs.
The Bears were paced by eight kills from Madison Scott.
Match 2: Western New England 3 Coast Guard 2 (8-25, 25-14, 17-25, 25-20, 15-7)
Western New England's Kelsey Armstrong led all players with 12 kills in the battle of the Bears as they topped Coast Guard 3-2.
Michelle Hernandez totaled a team-high 20 assists and 10 digs for Coast Guard, while Ashley Dumont and Scott each had eight kills for CGA.
WNE's service game was excellent all afternoon as they racked up 14 in the win over Coast Guard, including seven from Jenna Leuck.
Along with her service aces, Leuck added 14 assists and 15 digs.
Match 3: Clark University 3, Western New England 0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-10)
The Cougars made quick work of the Golden Bears, including hitting .500 in the second set as the controlled the match from start to finish.
Ramos led the way again with 13 kills and Mercado chipped in with nine of her own.
Cattaneo picked up nine digs and both Webb and Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) added seven each.
Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.) had six kills, while Courtney Pharr (Seattle, Wash.) posted five kills and four service aces.
Clark will put its perfect record on the line on Thursday when they continue league play at Mount Holyoke.
