Cougars Split Two Matches In Orlando

Orlando, Fla. – Clark split a two-match day with Regis College and Ohio Wesleyan as they continued to play matches in central Florida as part of their annual spring break trip.

The Cougars rallied to knock of the Pride in the morning, 5-4 before falling to the Battling Bishops, 9-0 in the evening at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

In the win over Regis, Clark picked a pair of victories as Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, Mass.) and Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) won at No. 3, 8-3 and then Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.) and Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) had little trouble at No. 1, earning an 8-2 victory.

Samodaev started singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 – his first win at No. 1 this season, while Malicky had little trouble at No. 5 singles with his 6-0, 6-1 win.

Keogh, meanwhile, was bested on a 10-5 tiebreaker in the third set but Pinkney got revenge for the Scarlet and White with a 2-6, 7-6, 10-6 win at No. 2.

In the nightcap against Ohio Wesleyan, the Battling Bishops proved to be too strong. They opened up with a doubles sweep as Sal Fukamachi and sophomore Jakraraj Rungaseng defeated Pinkney and Fernando Pinoargote, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.  Fukamachi then blanked Samodaev, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.

Ryan Hibbard and sophomore Alex Lutz combined for an 8-4 win over Ian Levy (Needham, Mass.) and Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) at No. 2 doubles. Hibbard then recorded a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Pinkney at No 3 singles.

Herman Volbers paired with freshman Noah Santiago for an 8-4 win over Keogh and Nicola-Antoniu at No. 3 doubles. Volbers then defeated Mateo Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) at No. 6 singles by scores of 7-6 (10-5), 6-4.

Clark will wrap up its stay in central Florida with a match against Colorado College on Friday.
