Providence, R.I. - Clark University used a sweep of doubles action to propel the Cougars to a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College in men's tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
Doubles action saw the Cougars (4-8) earn the sweep, with Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass.) topping the RIC (0-2) duo of Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.), 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.
No. 2 doubles saw Teodor Nicola-Antoniu (Bucharest, Romania) and Mateo Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) best the RIC pairing of Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) and Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, R.I.), 8-0.
Clark completed the sweep of doubles action when Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, Mass.) and Ian Levy (Needham, Mass.) topped the RIC duo of Cory Duquette and Chandler Scott, 8-1.
No. 1 singles saw Clark freshman Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) top Taggart (6-2, 6-2), while Pinoargote bested Tiberi at the No. 2 flight (6-1, 6-0).
Pinkney topped Scott (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles and Clark sophomore Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) topped Duquette (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles.
The Cougars' Gomez bested Esposito (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 singles with freshman Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) completing the sweep for the visitors, beating Gambardella (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 6 flight.
Clark is off until next Tuesday when they host Johnson & Wales at 3:30 p.m.
