Pride Push Past Cougars, 7-2

Springfield, Mass. – Host Springfield College rolled to a 7-2 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Courts.

The win for the Pride sends their record to 8-6 under first-year head coach Chad Stoloff and secures one of the five spots in the upcoming conference tournament for the first time since 2012.

For the Cougars, meanwhile, they slip to 6-12 overall and 1-3 in league play and now face an uphill climb if they are to continue their streak of four straight postseason berths.

Clark's lone victories came at No. 5 and No. 6 singles where Teodor Nicola-Antoniu (Bucharest, Romania) and Mateo Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) captured wins. Nicola-Antoniu bested Cameron Grant 6-0, 6-1, while Gomez faced a little more resistance before topping Zack Keene, 6-2, 6-4.

The Cougars are off until Saturday when they visit MIT for a meeting with the Engineers.
