Box Score Springfield, Mass. – Springfield College erupted for six goals in both the second and third quarters and the host Pride made quick work of Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at Stagg Field.
The win for Springfield sends their overall record to 8-7, but more importantly, the Pride remain undefeated in league play, moving to 6-0 with one conference contest left on Saturday. For the Cougars, meanwhile, they have now dropped two straight and four of their last five to find themselves at 9-5 overall. At 2-4 in conference action, they will need help on the regular season's final day to advance to the postseason for just the second time in school history.
Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) scored less than five minutes into the contest to slice the Springfield lead in half at 2-1.
From that point on, however, it was all Pride as they went on to run off 13 unanswered goals, spanning the first, second and third quarters. When the dust had settled from the Springfield uprising it was 15-1 at the end of the third period.
Clark did score a pair of goals in the fourth – one each from Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) and Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) – but by then the Pride were well on their way to their fourth straight victory.
The Cougars will wrap up their regular season on Saturday with a visit to Emerson College. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
