Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Clark University scored the game's final seven goals and the host Cougars raced past Plymouth State, 11-6, in non-league lacrosse action on Wednesday evening.

The win for the Scarlet and White gives them their second straight win over the Panthers as both Nick Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) and Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) each had standout performances.

The Basics
Score:
Clark University 11, Plymouth State 6
Records: Clark University 6-3; Plymouth State 2-4
Location: Granger Turf Field, Worcester, Mass.

How It Happened:

Ahead 4-3 to begin the second half, Clark saw its advantage evaporate quickly as the Panthers scored three goals in a ten minute span to take a 6-4 lead. First Colin Claflin (Pembroke, Mass.) connected with Thomas Kelly to even the score less than three minutes into the third quarter and then Galen Antolino (Exeter, N.H.) put the visitors in front, 5-4 less than two minutes later.

Kelly was at it again with less than five minutes to go in the period as Pete Allen (Newbury, N.H.) set him up for his second of the frame, giving Plymouth State a 6-4 lead.

Clark began its march towards victory when Mandracchia found Andrew Myhre (Middlebury, Vt.) for the Cougars' first goal since the midway through the second quarter.

The Scarlet and White found itself on the man advantage later in the period and they took advantage, as Johnson teamed up with Isaac Bass (Amherst, Mass.) to even the score at 6-6.

Clark didn't wait until the end of the period to move on top as Mandracchia found Kyle Elkins (Stow, Mass.) who saw his blistering shot whizz past Plymouth State netminder Jayson LaRiviere (Chelmsford, Mass.) with six seconds left in the quarter.

The Cougars' offensive exploits continued into the final frame with Jack Goracy (West Islip, N.Y.) set up both Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) and Jack Pierce (Westborough, Mass.), pushing their Clark lead to 9-6 midway through the period.

Clark tacked on two more goals before the final horn as Mandracchia found the back of the next again and then Johnson fed Chris Rasco (Huntington, N.Y.) for another strike. That assist for Johnson gives him 178 career points, tied with Joe Figler (1997-00) for the second most points in school history just six behind all-time leader Shawn Roche (2006-10).

Inside The Numbers:
Johnson handed out a season-best three assists, while Mandracchia ended with two goals and two assists. King and Rasco each had two goals for the Cougars, while Goracy had two assists and Elkins finished with a goal and an assist.

Bobby Philbin (Ridgefield, Conn.) controlled the faceoff spot for Clark, going 10-for-14, while Will Roberts (Paxton, Mass.) had a goal, four caused turnovers and four groundballs.
