Tennis Drops Road Match with Brewers

THE BASICS

-Score: Vassar College 9, Clark 0

-Location: Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (Josselyn Tennis Courts)

-The Lead: The Clark University men's tennis team fell to the Brewers of Vassar College on in a non-conference road match on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Vassar jumped out on top early at the No. 3 position, as Nicolas Demaria and Nick Zuczek topped Clark juniors Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) and Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) 8-1 to push their season mark to 4-0. VC doubled its lead at No. 1 doubles, thanks to freshman Adam Kreuger and sophomore Jeremy Auh, as the duo was victorious 8-4.
 
-The closest doubles match happened at the No. 2 position, but Vassar junior Jamie Anderson and freshman David Gandham pushed past Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.) 8-5 to sweep the first three matches. The win for Anderson was his first doubles victory of the year in his first match on the doubles court.
 
-In singles, Krueger made quick work of freshman Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) with a 6-0, 6-2 score line to bring the Brewers to within one win of claiming the match. The victory would come minutes later, as Gandham knocked off Jose Dalla-Valle (Miami, Fla.) 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to earn the match for the Brewers. Gandham has now won his last four matches and is 4-0 this season at the No. 2 spot.
 
-Junior Nick Lee claimed his first win for Vassar at No. 5 singles, knocking off Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) 6-3, 6-2, while Anderson followed with another win at No. 3 thanks to his 6-0, 6-4 finish. Demaria became Vassar's fourth and final double winner of the day as he knocked off Han 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 to make the score 8-0.
 
-Sophomore Zamir Birnbach finished the proceedings Saturday with a bang, knocking off Malicky 6-2, 6-0. Birnbach posted one of the best points on the match to finish the day, as he clinched his No. 6 singles point with an unbelievable sliding half-volley off of a drop shot from Malicky.

-Clark is back in action in Florida when they take on Wabash College on Sunday, March 4th.
