-The Lead: The Clark University men's tennis team battled to a 6-3 victory over Elizabethtown College before falling to the Aquinas Saints, 7-0, on Tuesday in Orlando, Fla.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Match #1: Clark 6, Elizabethtown 3
-Clark pulled ahead 2-0 with wins at #1 and #2 Doubles to start the match. Senior Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Sophomore Jack Han (Bakerfield, Calif.) took a dominating 8-1 victory at #1 Doubles before Jacob Malicky (South Egermont, Mass.) and Duncan Drapeau (Boothbay, Maine) battled to an 8-5 victory over Ryan Caris and Tristan Boheim of Elizabethtown.
-The Blue Jays won at #3 doubles when Michael Ryzuck and Alec Schneider took the 8-1 finish over freshmen Jacob Podolsky (Sudbury, Mass.) and Philip Conde (Scarsdale, N.Y.) (2-1).
-Clark freshman Jose Dalla-Valle (Miami, Fla.) nearly shut out Connor Martin of the Blue Jays at #1 Singles with 6-0 and 6-1 victories (3-1).
-Wins from Han and Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) at #2 and #3 singles respectively extended Clark's lead to 5-1, but Boheim earned a victory for Elizabethtown at #4 Doubles to tighten the score to 5-2.
-Podlosky edged Ryzuk at #5 singles with a 6-1 and 7-6 finish for the Cougar's final victory of the day. Elizabethtown came out on top in #6 Singles but Clark took the ultimate 6-3 match victory.
Match #2: Aquinas 7, Clark 0
-Dalla-Valle and Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) battled at #1 Doubles but Aquinas's Chase Perry and Jordan Lomas finished with the 8-6 win. The Saints took two 8-0 victories to close out at #2 and #3 Doubles.
-Perry earned a win for the Saints at #1 Singles but Dalla-Valle did not make it easy for him, trailing 6-3 in both sets.
-Three more wins in Singles gave Aquinas the ultimate 7-0 victory.
