Cougars Split with Albion and AMCATS

THE BASICS

-Score: Game #1: Albion 3, Clark 1

-Score: Game #2: Clark 10, Anna Maria 2

-Records: Clark (4-4), Albion (5-3), Anna Maria (0-6)

-Location: Naples, Fla. (North Collier Field Park)

-The Lead: The Clark University softball team went 1-1 on Tuesday with a close 3-1 setback to the Britons of Albion College and a five-inning 10-2 victory over the AMCATS of Anna Maria College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 Game #1: Albion 3, Clark 1

-The Britons took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Kimberly Freitas doubled to right field and earned an RBI when sophomore Brianna Charron came home (1-0).

-The Cougars tied it up in the top of the fifth when freshman Isabella DiOrio (Lincoln, R.I.) singled to right field to score her classmate Jessica Urella (North Grafton, Mass.) (1-1).

-Albion added two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Savannah Spring came home and Angela Hoffsis scored for the ultimate 3-1 victory

-DiOrio led the Cougars going 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

-Lauren Beougher was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Britons.

-Charron earned the win on the mount for Albion going seven innings with two strikeouts and one earned run. The Cougars collected eight hits.

-Junior Taylor Erickson (Natick, Mass.) took the loss going six innings with two strikeouts, four walks, and just one earned run.

Game #2: Clark 10, Anna Maria 2

-The AMCAST took the first lead of the game when they scored runs in the top of the first inning and the top of the third inning.

-Clark added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up 2-2 when Erickson and senior Anjelica Gonzalez (Merrimack, N.H.) added runs.

-The Cougars exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning to seal the 10-2 victory. Gonzalez led the Cougars with a 2-for-4 day and three RBIs in the victory.

-Gonzalez, Leah Bodin (Andover, Vt.), and Christina Kopacz (North Gosvenordale, Conn.) all had doubles in the victory.

-Senior Brenna Foley (Charlton, Mass.) earned the win on the mound facing six batters, striking out two, and allowing no runs scored.

UP NEXT

-Clark plays two more at Century Link Sports Complex on Wednesday, March 7th. They take on Penn State Altoona at 900 a.m. and Geneva College at 11:00 a.m.
