-The Lead: The Clark University softball team dropped a pair of games with the Lions of Penn. State Altoona and the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars head back to Worcester, Mass. with a 4-6 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game #1: Penn. State Altoona 3, Clark University 0
-The Lions scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ellie Leyo got on base first by a walk. Abby Showers put her in scoring position when she singled up the middle. The Lions loaded the bases on a base hit from Meghan Marasti and added their first run of the game when Emily Strouse drove her home. Showers came home on a wild pitch and Kaitlyn Harmon singled to score Marasti and claim the 3-0 victory.
-Freshman Kelsey Joyce (Leominster, Mass.) tripled to left field in the top of the fifth inning to give Clark their lone hit of the game.
-Kaitlyn Harmon led the Lions going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the victory.
-Sidney Shultz earned the win on the mound for Penn. State Altoona going seven innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters.
-Senior Brenna Foley (Charlton, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for the Cougars. She struck out five batters in six innings.
Game #2: Geneva 2, Clark 0
-Geneva scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kyleigh Jo sent a two-run homerun just over the left field fence.
-Senior Leah Bodin (Andover, Vt.) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cougars.
-Senior pitcher Sami West (Gonic, N.H.) took the loss on the mound going six innings and striking out 10 batters. She falls to 2-2 on the season.
-Bobbi Ann Theiss improves to 3-0 on the season for the Golden Tornadoes. She pitched seven innings, struck out two batters, and gave up three hits.
UP NEXT
-The Cougars wrap up their Florida trip with a 4-6 record. They head back up north and play two at Bridgewater State College on Friday, March 16th at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
