In their opening match in the Sunshine State, Clark Men's Tennis fell to Birmingham Southern College (AL). Despite some close scores, the Cougars lost 6-3 overall in their only match of the day.
Singles
-At No. 1 singles, Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) was overpowered by Anthony Pellegrini 4-6, 7-6, 2-10. The lone Birmingham Southern senior found his rhythm in the third set.
-No. 2 singles, Jamie Bekaert defeated Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT). Clark's first-year fell to Bekaert 4-6, 1-6.
-Alex Wisener won the No. 3 singles match. Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) put up a great battle, but fell in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 11-13.
-Jack Han (Bakersfield, CA) put Clark on the board with his win over Ethan Gibson. The No. 4 singles matchup went down to the wire and finished 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
-In the No. 5 Singles match, Hunter Hoffmeister beat Clark's Ian Levy (Needham, MA). The Clark co-captain was bested in two sets, 2-6, 4-6.
-Giving Clark it's second victory was the Cougar's other co-captain, Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA). The senior Cougar defeated Connor Galvez, 6-4, 6-3.
Doubles
-Clark No. 1 duo Mathieu and Schweitzer couldn't get by the Birmingham Southern pair of Bekaert and Pellegrini, losing 5-8.
-Cougars Christian Ruebens and Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-7. They snuck by Gibson and Wisener for the third Clark victory on the day.
-In No. 3 doubles, Hoffmeister and Anthony Romano won for Birmingham Southern. Clark duo Malicky and Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT) fell 5-8 in the last doubles match to finish.
Next
-Clark has a 2:30pm match against Wabash College (IN) tomorrow, March 3rd. Coach Cahoon's team will be playing at the Lake Cane Tennis Center (Orlando).
-Birmingham Southern College will also compete against Wabash tomorrow. That match start time is still TBD.
