Cougars Lose Tight Match Against SUNY Oneonta

Orlando, Fla. - The Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta got the win last night in a very competitive match-up with the Clark Cougars. Losing by a score of 5-4, Clark made a great push for victory by claiming two out of three doubles matches. Clark slips to 4-7 on the year and SUNY Oneonta is now 3-3.

Singles:

-No. 1 singles was a three set match, decisively won by Oneonta's Marco Ammirati. First-year Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT) lost in a close match 3-6, 6-4, 8-10.

-Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) fell in No. 2 singles, which was the second of three matches that went to three sets. Nick Fox of SUNY Oneonta came out with the win 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.

-Clark's Jack Han (Bakersfield, CA) won his No. 3 singles match in three sets 2-6, 7-6, 10-6. Oneonta's Dalton Capobianco suffered the set back.

-Riley Smith of the Red Dragons took home the victory in No. 4 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Junior Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT) fought until the end for Clark.

-In two sets, Nathan Kapiloff pulled out a Cougar win 6-3, 6-3. The first-year took down Oneonta's Alexander Reiley in No. 5 singles.

-In the No. 6 singles match, Duncan Drapeau (Boothbay, ME) competed for Clark but came up short. Jack Clayton won the match-up 6-0, 6-0 for the Red Dragons.

Doubles:

-Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) and Schweitzer won their No. 1 doubles match with a score of 8 to 7. The close match-up favored the Cougars in the end, getting by Oneonta's duo Ammirati and Fox.

-Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) and Ruebens won the No. 2 doubles match 8 to 4 for Clark. They defeated Red Dragon pair Capobianco and Smith.

-To round out the day, SUNY Oneonta's No. 3 doubles won the match 8 to 6. Clayton and Matt Reinhold took down Clark's co-captain duo Ian Levy (Needham, MA) and Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA).

Up Next:

-Clark's scheduled match for 6:30PM today down in Florida has now been moved up to 1:30PM due to an impending storm. They will still take on Trine University at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

-SUNY Oneonta has today off and returns to action tomorrow March 6th against Emerson College at 11:30AM. They also have a match against Wabash at 6:30PM tomorrow.
