Wheaton Tops Men's Tennis, 7-2

Norton, Mass,--The Clark Men's Tennis team lost to the Wheaton College Lyons this evening, 7-2. The home team (Wheaton) won the match and they are now 9-6 this season. Clark's loss is their second in a row, dropping them to 8-11 on the year. Clark's two points both came in the singles matches.

Doubles:

-In a close No. 1 match, Clark's Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) and Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) were defeated 8-6 by their counterparts. 

-Losing 8-2 in the No. 2 match was Clark's Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) and Jack Han (Bakersfield, CA).

-To finish the sweep of the doubles matches, Wheaton took the No. 3 match 8-2. On the losing end were Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA) and Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT)

Singles: 

-Mathieu took the No. 1 singles match for the Cougars. He won a close first set, 7-6 and finished his opponent in the second set 6-1. 

-Ruebens represented Clark in the No. 2 match and competed well despite losing in two sets. The first set went to Wheaton 7-5 and the second finished 6-3. 

-Samodaev played No. 3 for Clark today, losing in straight sets to his opponent. 

-Hattenbach's efforts came up empty this afternoon, losing 6-2 and 6-1 to Wheaton's No. 4. 

-Ian Levy (Needham, MA) played in the No. 5 spot and the Senior lost to his Wheaton opponent in two sets. 

-Clark's Malicky claimed the other victory for the away team today. In a great three set match, the first set ended in Clark's favor 7-5. Despite losing the second set, Malicky came through with a 10-8 tiebreaking win to claim the last set and the match. 

Up Next:

-Clark's next match is tomorrow at home. Tomorrow's match-up with UMass Boston is Senior Day and also their American Cancer Society Game to fundraise for their team chosen cause. Join us down at Corash Tennis Courts for the 3:00PM start.

-Wheaton travels to Coast Guard for their next match. On Saturday, April 20th they start at 1:00PM.
