This evening, Clark celebrated their three seniors as they guided their team to a spot in the NEWMAC playoffs. The Cougars defeated the Springfield College Pride at the Corash Tennis Courts, 8-1. With the win, the Men's Tennis program moves to 9-11 on the year and also claims the five seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.
Doubles
-Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) and his fellow No. 1 Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) took down their opponent, 8-3.
-Clark's No. 2 duo Jack Han (Bakersfield, CA) and Senior Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) pulled out a close victory today, 8-7.
-Cougar Co-Captains and seniors, Ian Levy (Needham, MA) and Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA) also claimed a point for Clark. The No. 3 doubles match finished in our favor, 8-7.
Singles:
-Mathieu's efforts in the No. 1 singles spot fell short in the three set match. Springfield took set one 6-4, but set two went to the Clark Sophomore, 6-1. In the third set, Mathieu lost 10-6.
-Clark's Ruebens finished his opponent in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1.
-Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT) played in the No. 3 match today. He took down his opponent in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2.
-Cougar Senior Andrey Samodaev won his No. 4 match-up in a three set competition. After falling in the first set, Samodaev took the next two sets 6-4 and 10-3.
-On his Senior Day, Jacob Malicky won his singles match in two sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
-The third senior celebrated today, Ian Levy, also claimed a victory in his singles match. The two sets finished 6-2 and 6-3.
Up Next:
-Clark takes on UMass-Boston in a rescheduled match-up from last week. The match takes place at Clark tomorrow, April 25th, at 3:00PM. That will be the Cougar's last match before the NEWMAC playoffs.
-Springfield ends their year with a 5-10 record after today's loss.
