Men's Tennis Battles in NEWMAC Setback to MIT

Worcester, Mass.--The Clark University men's tennis team fell to the visiting MIT Engineers in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

Singles

-MIT senior Tyler Barr (San Antonio, Texas) took a victory over sophomore Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, Maine) at No. 1 singles with set scores of 6-2 and 6-2. 

-Senior Alex Cauneac (Severna Park, Md.)  took a victory over Clark first year Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, Conn.) at No. 2 singles. He claimed a 6-2 final in the first set before shutting out Shweitzer, 6-0 in set two.

-Sophomore Chris Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) earned Clark's lone victory of the day at No. 3 singles over MIT's Pablo Ampudia (San Antonio, Texas). Ampudia took set one 6-2 before Ruebens took set two, 6-2, to force a third set. Ruebens edged Amppudia 10-8 in the third set.

-Sophomore Charles Deng (Temple City, Calif.) took 6-1 victories at No. 4 singles over junior Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.).

-Senior Henry La Soya (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished with 6-3 and 6-2 victories over Clark's Ian Levy (Needham, Mass.) at No. 5 singles before MIT's Arman Dave wrapped singles play up with a 6-0 and 6-2 final over Clark senior Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.).

Doubles

-Mathieu and Ruebens fought hard at No. 1 doubles, but MIT's Barr and Cauneac clinched the 8-5 final victory.

-Deng and Ampudia took an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles for the Engineers over Malicky and Schweitzer before La Soya and Dave fouth their way to an 8-5 win over Hattenbach and Levy at No. 3 doubles. 

UP NEXT

-Clark hosts Emerson College in NEWMAC play on Sunday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m.

-MIT travels to Wheaton on Wednesday, April 10th for a conference match at 4:00 p.m.
