The Clark University Men's Tennis program grabbed a close victory this afternoon against the Emerson Lions. Today's home match finished in the Cougars favor, 5-4. After a tough loss yesterday, today's win was just what Coach Cahoon was looking for out of his players. With this afternoon's results, Clark is now 8-8 and Emerson drops to 8-5.
Singles:
-Emerson took the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Cougar Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) played well but couldn't get by his opponnent.
-Falling in the No. 2 match was Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT). The two set match went to Emerson's Maximo Lawlor 7-5, 6-1.
-Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) landed a victory for the Cougars in the No. 3 spot, sweeping his opponent in straight sets.
-Clark's Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) won his No. 4 match in a three set battle. Emerson took the first set 7-5, but Samodaev was resilient and won the final two sets 6-0, 6-2.
-Taking the No. 5 match in straight sets was Clark Captain Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA).
-Emerson's Jeff Pratt took the No. 6 match-up against Nathan Kapiloff. Kapiloff won the first set 7-5, but lost close battles in each of the final two sets. Pratt won 7-5, 10-7 in the final stages of the match.
Doubles:
-Mathieu and Ruebens were defeated in the No. 1 doubles match, losing 8-3 to Emerson's duo.
-Samodaev and his teammate Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT) gained a huge point at the No. 2 position for Clark. They took down their opponent in a tight match, 8-6.
-Malicky and Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT) grabbed another point for Clark to help propel them to a victory. They took down their No. 3 counterparts 8 to 2.
Up Next:
-Clark continues their NEWMAC schedule and takes on Coast Guard Academy this coming Wednesday. Their match on April 10th begins at 3:30PM at CGA.
-Emerson has a match-up on Wednesday, April 10th at 4:00PM. The Lions take on Springfield College in Springfield that afternoon.
