Field Hockey Faces Setback to Nichols

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team fell 5-1 (2-11-0) to the visiting Bison of Nichols College (7-7-0). Senior Erin Hynes scored the lone goal for the Cougars. 

How it Happened

  • Nichols got on the board first in the 12th minute when first year Ryan Mellor finished a pass from junior Erin Anthony on a penalty corner past Clark's keeper, senior Grace Sawyer

  • The Cougars got their first good look of the game when senior Emma Boland attempted a penalty corner in the 15th minute, and although the Cougars were unable to convert, they got a great look from Sophomore Rachel Romain, who sent the ball just wide of the right post. 

  • The Bison scored again in the 15th minute when junior Mackenzie Doran buried a loose ball in the box.

  • In the 17th minute, the Cougars got on the board when senior Erin Hynes was able to corral a loose ball in the circle and fire a shot past Nichol's goalie, junior Megan Fuchs. 

  • Before the end of the half, Nichols converted three more shots for goals, scored by graduate student Dana Edwards and two more from Doran.

  • 41 minutes into the game, Nichols nearly got on the board again but senior Hailey Parsons came up with a big defensive save for the Cougars. Again, in the 45th minute, Clark's defense came up big when senior Sydney Lamothe also stopped a Nichols shot and registered a defensive save. 

  • Clark got their final look at the goal in the 58th minute when sophomore Rachael Romain got a great look, but her shot was met by the Bison's keeper.

Inside the Box Score

  • Clark took 20 shots on the day, placing eleven on goal. 
  • Hynes' goal was her second of the season and the second of her career.

  • The Cougars edged out the Bison in pentalty corners drawing nine to Nichols' six. 
  • Clark's defense came up big for registering two defensive saves on the day. Parsons registered the first defensive save of her career, while Lamothe registered her fifth. 

What's Next

Clark is back on the road as they head to Springfield College to visit the Pride for a NEWMAC conference matchup on Saturday, October 16th. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
