Men's Soccer Battles No. 21 Babson to 0-0 2OT Draw

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Clark men's soccer (5-5-2, 0-1-2 NEWMAC) battled No. 21 Babson (6-3-1, 2-0-1 NEWMAC) to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon from Hartwell-Rogers Field.

How it Happened

  • Graduate student Melvin Vincent recorded two early saves on shots from the Beavers.
  • Clark got their first look at the goal in the 13th minute when Senior Alex Maiorano placed a shot on net, but it was stopped by Babson's keeper Itai Rubin.
  • First-year Tyler Manley got a good look at goal in the 32nd minute, but Rubin punched the ball out of play for a corner.
  • Melvin Vincent was perfect between the pipes in the first half saving five of the five shots he faced.
  • In the 70th minute, the Cougars got a great look at the goal with senior Brian Brennan found classmate Daniel Moura for the shot in the lower left corner, but it was stopped by the Beaver's keeper.
  • Vincent came up with two more crucial saves in the 76th and 80th minutes on shots and senior Greg Amador lofted a shot on goal in the 82nd minute that hit the crossbar.
  • Brennan took a penalty shot for the Cougars in the 87th minute, but Rubin came up with a crucial diving save.
  • 89 minutes into the match, Clark looked to win the game when graduate student Patrick Clark shot the ball from inside the box, but the ball was deflected out of bounds by Babson's Rubin.
  • The Cougars got another shot to win the game in the 95th minute when Maiorano launched another shot on goal that was stopped by Rubin.
  • Neither team recorded a shot on goal in the second overtime as the game ended in a draw, 0-0.
