Box Score

Worcester, Mass.- Clark University Men's Soccer (6-5-3, 0-1-3 NEWMAC) captured a 1-1 draw against the Engineers of WPI (7-3-2, 1-2-1 NEWMAC) at Granger Field Saturday afternoon after battling for 110 minutes.

The Cougars were led by goal scorer, senior Brian Brennan, and graduate student, goalie Melvin Vincent who recorded a season-high nine saves on the day.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars got their first good look of the game in the second minute of play when a cross into the box found the foot of senior Alex Maiorano who took the shot in the right side of the box that was blocked by WPI junior keeper Row Hendrick.
  • In the 15th minute of play, WPI got their first look at the goal when junior Francesco Valagussa launched a shot from outside the box, but Vincent was there to record the save.
  • Clark jumped out to an early lead in the 17th minute when sophomore Teddy Donuhue found first year William Lopez on the left-hand side of the field. Lopez placed a beautiful cross into the box which was one timed by senior Brian Brennan behind WPI's Hendrick.
  • In the 33rd minute of play, WPI looked to tie it up when WPI sophomore Aaron Vaz put one on net, but Vincent came up with a big stop to carry the Cougar's 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • 59 minutes into the game, WPI tied it up at one a piece when first year Ryan Dalton finished a corner from junior Franco Bazzini.
  • In the 69th minute, Clark looked to convert off a set piece when Brennan served a corner into the box that was headed just wide by senior Andrew Pimental.
  • Five minutes before the end of regulation, the Cougars looked to take back the lead after drawing contact just outside the box. Maiorano took the free kick, sending it just north of the crossbar.
  • At the end of the first overtime period the score remained tied at one and Vincent recorded a save.
  • In the 110th minute WPI looked to take the game, but Vincent and senior Javier Amezcua recorded saves as the two teams drew 1-1.
