WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team dropped a doubleheader in the home-opener with WPI on Saturday afternoon as freshman Lauren Meinhold tossed a shutout in game one before Katie Martin did the same to give the Engineers 3-0 and 10-0 victories at the O'Brien Softball Field. 

The Engineers got rolling early in game one when Marissa Gonzales led off the game with a double. She moved to third on a single by Nicole Logrecco and scored on an error to give WPI a 1-0 lead. Engineers senior Brittany Bolster doubled the advantage for the visitors, doubling home Kallie Case. 

Clark's Samantha Crowley (Middleboro, Mass.), Samantha Restrepo-Stier (Davie, Fla.), and Natalie Stilwell (Beverly, Mass.) each collected hits for the Cougars during the front end of the doubleheader. In the circle, senior Isabella DiOrio (Lincoln, R.I.) also threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks. DiOrio struck out two batters in the circle for Clark.

During game two, the Cougars were outhit 12-2 with Crowley supplying both knocks for Clark in the 10-0 run-rule final score. The teams battled in a scoreless tie through the first two innings before WPI opened the scoring in the top of the fourth following an RBI single from Nicole Logrecco. Lorgrecco came through again in the sixth for the visitors, doubling home another run to make it a 4-0 score. 

Logrecco's double jump-started a seven-run sixth inning, in which WPI collected six hits and took advantage of a pair of Clark errors. Clark put a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning as Amelia Wasilko (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) drew a walk before getting the third base on a single from Crowley. But WPI was able to escape the inning without a run, finishing off the 10-0 final score.
