Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (7-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) opened NEWMAC play on Tuesday night with a convincing 3-1 win against WPI (8-0) from Kneller Gymnasium. The Cougars won the first set 25-15, the second set 25-21, fell 25-20 in the third, and won 25-20 in the fourth set to secure the win.
How it Happened
- After falling behind 10-7 early in the first set, junior Claudia Rivera recorded three kills to give Clark a 13-11 edge and the Cougars ended the first frame on a 12-3 run led by kills from sophomores Sheyenne Williams and Sofia Scherrer del Llano from first-year Yvanna Torres as the scarlet and white took the first set 25-15.
- Rivera picked up right where she left off in the second set with a pair of early kills as Clark took a 9-7 lead before Scherrer del Llano added another two kills as the Cougars trailed 20-18 and the scarlet and white ended the frame on a 7-1 run sparked by service aces from Torres and Rivera, a double block from sophomore Camille Flurry and Rivera, and a kill from Flurry to take set two by a 25-21 margin.
- The Cougars got out to an early 10-5 lead in the third sparked by three more Rivera kills, a Torres service ace, and a kill from senior Margarita Perez-Maza and at one point led 17-11 in the frame, but fell 25-20 despite two more kills from Rivera, Williams, and one from Perez-Maza.
- The fourth set was back-and-forth early as the set was tied 13-13 early with four more Rivera kills and the teams traded the next 12 points in what was a 19-19 deadlock in the fourth sparked by a pair of Scherrer del Llano kills assisted by Rivera.
- The Cougars then ended the match on a 6-1 run with kills from Torres, Rivera, a Williams service ace, and a double block from Williams and Flurry to give Clark its first NEWMAC win of the year.

- Clark recorded 46 total kills, 42 assists, and 60 digs in the match.
- Senior Marimo Oka led the way with 15 digs and Torres recorded 11.
- Rivera registered 21 kills and Scherrer del Llano also was in double digits with 10 kills.
- Torres led the team with 31 assists and Flurry had five total blocks.
