Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 NEWMAC) recorded their second NEWMAC win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Mount Holyoke (2-7, 0-3 NEWMAC) from the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.
The Cougars took the first set 25-16, the second set 25-16, fell 25-16 in the third, and won 25-13 in the final set.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Victoria Pastor started the match with three early kills to guide Clark to a 7-3 lead and three kills sophomore Sheyenne Williams and two from junior Claudia Rivera pushed the lead to 19-14 before the Cougars pulled away on two more Rivera kills and a final point from sophomore Camille Flurry to take the first set 25-16.
- Clark got out to an early 14-6 advantage in the second set thanks to four kills from Pastor, including a stretch with three straight kills before Mount Holyoke got to within 17-13 and the Cougars then finished the set on an 8-3 run sparked by kills from Pastor, Flurry, and sophomore Sofia Scherrer del Llano to take the set 25-16.
- The Cougars fell behind 11-8 early in the third set, but were able to tie the set at 16-16 thanks to kills from senior Margarita Perez Maza, Williams, Rivera, and Flurry, but Mount Holyoke ended the frame with nine unanswered points to take the third set.
- In the fourth set, Clark got out to a 11-5 lead sparked by service aces from first-year Yvanna Torres and senior Bailey Vogel and extended the lead to 18-10 thanks to three kills from Rivera and the Cougars ended the match with a kill from Scherrer del Llano as Clark won the set 25-13.
