Men's Soccer Cruises to 3-0 Win Over Framingham State

WORCESTER, Mass.- Clark men's soccer (3-1-0) scored two goals on visiting Framingham State (0-3-0) in the first half, and never looked back as the Cougars secured a 3-0 victory over the Rams from Granger Field.

The win saw three different players score their first goals of the season for Clark. Sophomore goalie Andrew DiStefano earned his first career shutout in goal for the Cougars.

Coach O'Toole's Thoughts

"It's always good to win at home," said O'Toole following the victory. "It was a complete effort today by the entire squad to get the result. Very happy to see three different goal scorers. We now have some pretty good momentum going into a pair of difficult games this weekend."

How it Happened

  • In the fourth minute, Clark senior Alex Maiorano go the offense going with a shot on goal. The shot was saved by FSU's James Hartshorn.
  • Maiorano had another shot on goal saved in the 18th minute.
  • Sophomore Anyolo Makatani scored his first collegiate goal for the Cougars as he raced past FSU for a loose ball, and perfectly placed it. Makatani was assisted by first-year William Lopez, his first collegiate assist.
  • In the 40th minute, Clark widened their lead when senior Derek Jones scored his first goal of the season with a well-placed high corner shot. Ezekiel Pamer recorded his first assist of the season on the play.
  • In the 43rd minute, Framingham State nearly got on the board when Gabriel Padilla took an uncontested shot. Cougar goalie Andrew DiStefano made a superb save to keep the shutout intact.
  • First-year Lucas Saia nearly added another goal for the scarlet and white in the 58th minute, with FSU goalie Joseph Sturzo making the stop.
  • Clark graduate student Patrick Clark scored his first goal of the year on a beautiful shot, assisted by Olivier Pierre and Alex Maiorano.
  • In the 82nd minute, DiStefano made another sharp save on a shot by FSU's Shawnd Chambers.

Inside the Box Score
