PAXTON, Mass.- Clark men's tennis (1-3) lost their season opener 8-1 to Saint Michael's (4-6) on Wednesday afternoon from the indoor courts at the Paxton Tennis and Fitness Center.
Doubles
• A pair of first-years, Ryan Hovey and Aidan Hurtado, took the court at No. 3 doubles, where they were defeated by the Purple Knights.
• Junior Sam Pomann and sophomore Tanner Honnef also lost for the Cougars at No. 2 doubles.
• Clark found their lone point at No. 1 doubles. Senior Max Schweitzer and junior Dariy Vykhodtsev led for most of the set, before getting broken to even the score at 6-6. Despite the added pressure, the duo stepped up when it mattered most, breaking and then holding on Vykhodtsev's serve to clinch an 8-6 match.
Singles
• Returning to singles for the first time since early 2020, Schweitzer fought hard at No. 2 singles, and despite coming up short, there were a lot of positives.
• Vykhodtsev, Hovey, and Honnef all fell respectively in their matches at No. 1, 4, and 3 singles.
• At No. 6 singles graduate student Josh Podolsky lost to his Saint Michael's opponent.
• At No. 5 singles, Pomann played an entertaining match, filled with long and exciting rallies. The junior ultimately lost 6-3, 6-2.
