Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) played its first conference game of the season against MIT (6-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) and fell 23-9 on Saturday afternoon from Steinbrenner Stadium.
How it Happened
- Senior Ryan Mickelson made a pair of crucial early saves to keep the game tied and fellow senior Benjamin Hollerbach gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with 10:56 left in the first quarter.
- Junior John D'Eufemia and seniors Tommy McCarthy and Steve Caione each fired shots on goal in the first quarter as Clark trailed 5-1.
- Mickelson made a pair of saves early in the second quarter and Hollerbach netted his second goal of the game with 7:34 remaining in period.
- Two minutes later, Hollerbach added his third goal of the game as Clark got within three at 6-3, but MIT scored the next five goals before Hollerbach netted his fourth goal of the game as the Cougars trailed 12-4.
- D'Eufemia and sophomore Colin Howard fired shots on target early in the third before McCarthy found the back of the net on a pass from first-year Matt Wells to make it 18-5.
- Senior Nathan Minkwitz, Wells, Howard, and Caione each netted goals in the fourth quarter as Clark fell 23-9.
